Hello PUP families,

Well, what a week! Wasn’t it awesome to see the cheerleaders welcoming students back to school on Monday morning? We appreciate them and the parents who got them to school bright and early to bring the positive energy to start the day!

While there have been a few bumps this week, overall things are running smoothly. Thanks to everyone for their patience as we create new routines for our students. We understand you may still have questions and in addition to visiting the school website, keeping up with Mr. William’s correspondence, and reading the Purple Page, I encourage you to join the Lanier Middle School Parents Incoming and Current Facebook Group. Note, there are some answers you MUST answer to be accepted to the group, but once that happens you will find a community of parents with questions, as well as answers! We are all in this together and this is group is a great place to connect to share information, address concerns, and offer positive feedback on things Lanier is doing well.

Speaking of, isn’t it wonderful to see Mr. Williams in his suit welcoming students each morning? The teachers and staff have been working diligently this week to ensure all the students have schedules. Please continue to be understanding as all the kinks are worked out. I know things will be running like a well-oiled machine soon.

The PTO has been offering support by gathering volunteers this week to help the office staff with some clerical work so they can focus on the students, and we are very thankful for the time these volunteers have contributed. We plan for this to be a regular daily volunteer opportunity. If you are interested in helping SignUp here

While you are thinking about volunteering, please consider offering a hand at our Community Movie Night on September 10th. Opportunities are listed here. Please remember to RSVP for Movie Night so we have an accurate count for security and concessions.

Your generous PTO donations help us ease the financial burden on our teachers as they start the year - we offer to reimburse each teacher up to $250 for school supplies. I am confident you will agree that teachers should not have to come out of pocket for their classroom supplies. Consider all the ways our PTO supports our teacher and student community as we are kick off our big fall fundraiser, RAISE YOUR PAWS FOR A CAUSE, today!

Thank you for your continued support. It makes a difference and helps make Lanier Middle School a great place to be!

See you next week,

Heather Peterson

PTO President

Greetings PUP families,

We made it through the first week! It has been a pleasure to meet each student and I am very proud of them for figuring out how to navigate a big new place. There have been successes and some challenges as well. Thank you for being patient with Lanier teachers and staff as we transition into new routines. Things will be running smoothly very soon.

You should have received communication from me earlier this week. If not, visit

to update your communications settings. Some important information included in my last email addressed:

Each student received their very own school planner yesterday in PUPS!  They need to bring that planner to school every day.  The first part of the planner has a lot of helpful information you may want to look through.  There is a worksheet on page 5 where your student should have copied their schedule in a format that follows the timeline for P-days and R-days (the printed out pink schedules can confuse our kiddos).  Feel free to check on page 5 to ensure that this is filled out correctly and use the bell schedule on page 4 and the map on page 6 to sort out any confusion for your child on where to go.  There is also a section the students were supposed to copy for the grading policy.  Here's that information if you see that page 8 is still blank.

Week of 8/29 Supplies

Once the students have their lockers, they will be leaving their backpacks in their lockers and bringing their needed supplies to each class. Grade Level Supplies

Laptop Distribution: 8/29-9/7

In our history classes, our students will be receiving their HISD laptops!  They will be responsible for bringing their charged laptop to school every day.  Before that happens, they need to have signed paperwork and a $25 fee taken care of. Please make sure you put your student’s name and ID number so we can ensure their payment is credited.

Your student should have brought home that information, plus many of you already took care of it at Back-To-School Night on 8/18. Here's additional information to help your child use this tool responsibly. You must access the site and fill out the Google Form at the end for your student to receive their laptop.

The PTO and parent volunteers have been a huge help to our office staff this week. Our students are the priority, and we appreciate the time you contributed to assisting us with clerical tasks so that our admin staff could take care of registration and schedule updates.

Next week we will continue to streamline our routines. You can learn more about Lanier and the day in the life of a student on August 31st at PUP 101 organized by Ms. Garza, Lanier’s AP & Magnet Coordinator and Mr. Maluski, our suburb counselor. This is a parent only event and we encourage you to attend if you are new to Lanier.

I hope this weekend you reflect on the positive aspects of your student’s first week at school and celebrate new accomplishments and budding friendships. We are enthusiastic to see everyone on Monday and ready for a week of new middle school experiences.

Opportunities for PUPS around town

While we encourage Pups to try Lanier's athletic offerings, we realize that some students may be interested in sports not offered at Lanier and will periodically share those with our community.

Pershing Boys Lacrosse Club

Boys in grades 5 through 8 from any school that does not have its own lacrosse team can play for the Pershing Boys Lacrosse Club.

No previous lacrosse experience is necessary. Equipment available to use for initial practices to see if this is the sport for you.

Lacrosse is a high paced sport combining skills from soccer, baseball, and football. Fall is Pre-season. Games in the spring.

We practice Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-7pm at the Pershing Middle School fields off Stella Link.

Practices will begin September 19th
